Some things that I took away from the IRE zoom meeting is that you can find out a lot about a person from a simple google search. There are a lot of tools at your disposal that will help you research people to find out information on them. There are also tools that will help you verify if information is true or not. You can use google maps to obtain the google maps geocode and paste it into Twitter along with a radius and you can see who all is tweeting from that specific area. IRE also helps students get from where they are to where they want to be. I followed up with Ms. Hutchins after the meeting.
WTVD-ABC11 Visit Blog Post
Some things that I took away from the WTVD visit was that as a reporter, I should always have story ready. One key element that I took away was that “the best stories come from the people.” Akilah Davis, a news reporter for ABC11, said that the best way to get a job is obtain an internship before graduating. She also mentioned that you need to make connections within the community. She use to cover multiple counties and then turned into a beat reporter. Tom Donahue, producer for ABC11, mentioned that they have Fall internships coming up this summer. I also took away that deadlines are tight and vital.
29 year-old EX-NLF player, Louis Nix, found dead.
Louis Nix, a graduate of Notre Dame and Ex-NFL player, who went missing earlier this week, was found dead Saturday. No cause of death has been reported.
Nix family reported him missing on 2-24-21, after days of searching, the Jacksonville Police tweeted at 8 p.m. ET Saturday that Nix had been found but his condition was not yet released.
Less than an hour later, Jacksonville Police found a vehicle in a pond that closely matched the description of Nix’s vehicle that was reported earlier this week in a search to find him.
Nix was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of 2014 after racking up 144 total tackles and 14 TFL while playing for the Fighting Irish.
Black Power Mixtape Reaction
I have mixed emotions about this film. In one part of my mind it encourages me to keep fighting, and another part of me is like what’s the point of us even trying? They ( white people) don’t look at us like humans and it has been like this forever, back then I feel like it was more hands on protesting, fighting etc. I believe as long as we keep fighting for rights that it is good but do I truly believe we are being heard?.. Not really. (Not all white people are racist)
A lesson that I took away from this story is that we are not respected and we were never respected. We were never even meant to have rights, their plan was to just work us and beat us. I took away that we need to stick together no matter what because a close fist hurts more than an open hand and that a kingdom that is divided will fall!! White people work together!!! That’s why they are still on top!
I feel that the images from this movie deconstructed negative media imagery because some of the white people were for us..as blacks we don’t realize that not all white people are racist, but the black power movement showed how low down and dirty the racist ones were. Even when peacefully protesting we were still murdered.
Killer Mike Trigger warnings reflection
Three points that i took away from trigger warnings with Killer Mike were:
1: It is crazy how black people can only keep the dollar in our community for 6 hours. Its because we are surrounded by white inventions and as time went on, black people took their dollar elsewhere.
2: Buying black is not impossible but it definetly harder to do becasue of how many big name brands are white owned.
3: We use white inventions everyday, truth is, black people make the same things but they are not “up to par” as we would like them to be.. we could being our dollar back to our community, but it would take our whole community.
Killer Mike Protest Response
I agreed with Killer Mike when he said that it is not time to destroy the city, because there is history in Atlanta. What is the purpose of getting mad at what the white man did and turning around and doing damage to the black community even more. There is really nothing good to say about what happened as he said. It was definitely a time for black people to be enraged.
Tyler Perry Reflection Post
Tyler Perry used his past as fuel for his future, he talked about how you have to have a high risk endurance, meaning that you hve to take risk and being that they are risk, you will not always win but your have to endure. He also talked about building the black community from the ground up and how a black man can own his own stuff and not have to lease it from the white man. Tyler mentioned that if you want to build something that you have to have “hyperfocus” and hone in on what your vision is.

Vida Williams Ted Talk
Three key points that I pulled from the Ted Talk with Vida Williams, a data scientist, are as follows- 1: We are all gridded 24/7, no matter if we turn out location off or leave our phone at home, we are all accounted for. 2: We are responsible for knowing our data, we should start reading terms and conditions because this is what makes the citizens data as it is today. 3: There is someone watching us from our start to our beginning they do not know us as a person but they know us in different forms…maybe a state ID number, social security number or criminal record number, they know us and everything about us.
Why am I taking Intro to Mass Communication?
I am taking this class because it is a requirement for Mass Communication majors. I am also taking this class because I need a better understanding on what Mass Communication is. I am already a “good” public speaker, but there is also always room for improvement. This intro class will strengthen my communication skills and help give me a good, solid foundation about my new major. I feel that Mr. Chambers can get me to the place that I need to be.
